Despite the load of trans and books I have to face a few minutes from now, plus, the pressure from having three exams for three consecutive days, today is one of my happiest days of this sem. (Or maybe even my life!) My dad and I finally made the decision about which med school I’d go to after I finish college. I was bargaining among UP, UST, ATENEO, UE. Why?
UP because it’s UP! Who dreams not of going to UPMed?
UE because their specialty is their surgery program (like the flagship course of some sort).
UST because it’s one of the top 5 universities. The downside though is, UST med students in internships are usually the ones getting scolded at for not knowing much about practicals. (This didn’t come from me, it came from USTMed graduates taking internship at UP-PGH and also from other sources).
ATENEO because of their tie-up with Med City. The thing that’s been holding me back from choosing this is because the program’s new and we don’t know their performance rates in board exams…yet. Hence, garnering the last place.
Guess which ones made it to the top 2!
Of course, the first choice has always been UP! =) But the chances are slim because apparently, PH loves giving us a hard time getting high grades to make us potential UPMed students. :| But it’s still free to dream big right?
ATENEO for second choice! Would you believe it? From being the last choice, it jumped up to second choice. =) After talking to the consultant of my dad’s company (who was btw one of the people who approved/accredited the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health) , we were more confident of Ateneo than UST or UE. According to him, their curriculum is really good (with a really nice campus and over the top facilities). If you were there, you’d feel the dignity he had while recommending Ateneo for Med. And then the issue of proximity comes into question. Since it’s nearest our house, it makes it the most ideal school of choice.
No objections, comments, or violent reactions from the concerned party (ie me! haha), as expected. The fact that my dad had the greatest push for Ateneo, it felt like I had a big load of pressure lifted off my shoulder. If I don’t get into UPMed, there are no disappointments of any hint because my dad’s okay with the second choice. =)
Maybe that’s just what I needed to motivate me study better. (Surprisingly, I’m more into studying now because of it.) Not to keep up with the expectations I have set for myself (for my family) but just to enjoy studying to get to my dreams. To be what I want to be.
No more worries. No more pressures.
Thank you Lord. =)
HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY DAY! =)
